If you read up on the public and private thinking of Boehner and MCConnell, its quite clear they have no austerity plans in after the 11/2 elections when they are likely to regain control of one or more braches of the legislature.

They know exactly how unpopular it will be to really cut spending, and the past two years of rhetoric was simply aimed at making Obama in to a one term President. Even as they sold out the American economy to achieve those ends.

When GWB took office our national debt stood at 6 trillion, when GWB left office he had added some 4 trillion or more to the national debt, and much of tarp was already the policy of Hank the Crank Paulson.

But unless we get unemployment down and tax revenues up soon, we are likely to see unemployment skyrocket with the GOP in charge of congress. Because we need to quit outsourcing jobs and restructure the American economy, something that will be impossible with current GOP thinking. I Can't say Obama is much better but we may find the bottom dropping out soon unless the collective we wise up.

Sure they mean Austerity for the common man, they mean free market for you, bankers will still get bailouts, no bid contracts will go to connected, ponzi financial fraud will go unpunished essentially they will reward those who got them there, buying a $20 tshirt does not count.

Yes, austerity please. Taxes are too high, too much waste, too much unneeded crap, too many bailouts, too many favors, too much military, too many harmful social programs, too many government departments that we don't need, too much pensions for politicians, too high of salaries for government employees, too much aid to other countries, too many subsidies to favored industries etc etc

Pay down these deficits and then I want my money back.

Just another uber-progressive article that has been repeated time after time after time after time.

If your ideology says government spending is the only path to prosperity, then of course you're going to conclude that reduced government spending will destroy the country.

Nah. I just think that the half of the voters you mention are delusional fools deep in denial, like you.

Austerity may reorient their thinking a little bit- it did in 1932.

What austerity measures were implemented in 1932?

Which simply tells us how stupid and gulliable cubby is. Earlier it was mentioned that its been proven that Government spending should go up in bad times to pump up the economy, but the problem is, in good times, neither Republicans or Democrats ever bother to pay down the debts.

As my previous post pointed out, the GOP has no plans to reduce spending now, and I will rest my proof of my statements in the next one or two years of results.

Talk to me in a year of two Cubby, and believe me, you and I will not be pleased in two years time. Because we are likely to see 20% unemployment by then.

He is just using the progressive version of arguing history, where they make false comparisons of things happening today to things that didn't happen during the Great Depression, and hope nobody else knows what they are talking about.

As I pointed out in another thread where "austerity" during the great depression was brought up as the reason for the second recession, the primary causes were due to increased unionization and government regulation of business causing real labor costs to skyrocket, decreasing production and increasing unemployment, while at the same time the banks tried to preemptively combat inflation by increasing bank reserve requirements, which simply decreased the amount banks were willing to lend.

Got yourself a huge ego, I see.

You're focusing on just one sole factor in the equation. Government spending relies on (1) borrowing money, (2) taxing everyone, & (3) printing money, i.e. inflation. For some strange reason I don't see our government able to continue borrowing money like it has been. And I don't think higher taxes are the answer either nor do I think they will do it. So do we want high inflation to go with our stimulus? Is that going to help us prosper?

I will not deny my ego almost always proves to be correct in the end, meanwhile cubby, wait to see how wrong you were in a year or two.

Actual results always decides ideological differences. You may think a big GOP win tomorrow will solve any problems, but I am going on record in telling you it will be an unmitigated disaster.

It is always a disaster if your way is not proven correct
