Are prices for Ti4200 stable for now? Will prices be dropping anytime in the next week? Well, of course no one knows for sure, but what are your predictions? I'm itching to get one.

:D Go get one!

;) 4200 prices will hardly change until the new nVidia cards come out Dec-ish, even then I wouldn't anticipate a great reduction on 4200 as I doubt it is very profitable even at current prices. That's my take on it anyway.

Jesus christ, once again beaten by anandaustin and same comment.

I agree - there's nothing even close to Ti4200 performance in its price range right now. Since it has its own niche (under $200, and really, not that different from a way more expensive Ti4600), I wouldn't expect anything drastic for awhile on its price. Not until a competing card comes out. Right now is, dare I say it, a perfect time to buy one.

Although, it's also pretty fun getting a GF3 Ti200 at half the price of that ;-)

Also, your post count is increasing faster than mine! Blast it all (not like I really care, but ...)

Wuddya guys think will happen to prices in the next week when the Radeon 9700 becomes more widely available?

Oh, and I'm deciding between:

eVGA TI4200 64MB from PcClub for 129
Aopen TI4200 128MB from Mwave for 155 (no dvi to vga adapter)
MSI TI4200 128MB from NewEgg for 165. (comes with games and dvi to vga adapter)

I'm leaning towards the MSI just cuz the dvi to vga adapter costs about 10 dollars (which is the diff between the two 128mb cards) plus it comes with games! But gotta wait for it to get shipped.
But I want the Aopen version cuz Mwave is near me and I want it NOW.
The evGA seems like a good price, and it's even closer than Mwave! and I want it NOW.

Haha, so what should I get?

Actually, I think I'll wait. I checked out the cpu scaling link that AnAndAustin posted and I've decided that I'll change my cpu at the same time I change my video card. Please convince me not to do this (since a part of me still wants the TI4200 now!)

:D Well Athlon 1.4 @ 1.45 is more than enough to get great perf out of GF4TI4200, although a bit more CPU power does show a significant improvement with GF4TI cards over the GF3 and Rad8500 cards which begin to taper out. If you are currently using a Radeon DDR then I'd DEFINITELY suggest getting a 4200 now and then save up for a new CPU, in a few weeks AthlonXP2000+ to XP2200+ should become bargains with the new Barton AthlonXP coming out.

 As for which 4200 to choose, well 128MB is definitely better and 64MB will become a pretty major limitation pretty soon. Although 4200-64MB cards are pretty much guaranteed to use 3.6ns RAM and hit 300/600 once the RAM limit is breached a 4200-128MB at the default 250/444 actually equals the perf from the info I've read, and 4200-128MB nearly always use 4.0ns RAM and hit 300/550 making them faster than a 4400! The choice is yours of course, but I'd get a 4200-128MB and wouldn't be too concerned about the DVI-to-CRT converter as for most it's only something to play around with anyway!

;) Certainly, anything less than a GF4TI4200 would mostly waste that extra CPU o/c. 1.53ghz will give you near enough the same perf as an AthlonXP1800+! VERY nice indeed ... what kind of cooler do you use on that thing?

:D Look along the CPU Scaling sections to see the diff you'll get from going from 1.4ghz to 1.53ghz!

I actually don't know what kind of cooler I use. It's a CoolerMaster that came with the CPU when I bought it at PcClub. Not very good because my cpu temp is 10 degrees C higher than the system temp. But it's working for now.

Yup, I've checked the CPU scaling chart. I like that chart a lot, very helpful.

I'll probably be getting my card sometime this week. :)

BTW, I'm back down to 1.5GHZ. Tried playing WC3 at 1.53 and it wasn't stable, so back to 1.5 and it's stable.
