Are places like DOC or the walmart vision express things any good?

I think I need to go have my eyes checked. I think I am nearsighted. I can read books and stuff fine, but I have trouble reading far away stuff, like road signs and stuff. I mean i can read them within plenty of time to like get off at a certain exit or something. But not nearly as soon as others I know can read them.

So I am just wondering how places like the vision centers in walmarts or the DOC in the mall are compared to real eye doctors offices. Anybody been to any of these places, any stories to tell?

I always go to walmart to get my contacts. I saw someone there when I noticed I had to squint even with my contacts on. they increased the magnification. no problems since.

I'm sure they are fine, but I use my 'real' eye doctor for my main glasses, then take my rx to walmart and get rx sunglasses for cheap.

Walmarts usually have real doctors on staff. They work on a part time basis usually. Ask friends/co workers and see who they recommend.

How long does it usually take them to make your glasses or contacts? I mena I probablly won't get them the same day right?

I've been to both Walmart and Costco vision centers. No problems at either one.
The optomotrist's at both places work independent (they lease the space out).

Another Wal-mart eyecenter customer here. My wife and I have been going there for years with no problems.

Happy with Walmart/Sams Club.

With contacts it depends if they have your prescription or not. Even if they don't they probably have some starter ones at least so you can at least leave with a pair. I lost my glasses when I was in Virginia Beach once so I ran into a Walmart and had my eyes checked just to get a pair of contacts so I could drive home to PA. If they don't it usually takes 3-5days, same with glasses if they have to send them out (which all the places I've been to do)

What about insurance, I was just calling around to the places like lenscrafters, DOC, walmart(nobody answered there though), sears vision center. Sears doesn't accpet UHC insurance, lenscrafters does but only if the vision is causing a health problem, which in my case it may be,since i am getting a lot of headaches. DOC I think said they don't accept insurance, but I can't remember, and as I said, no one answered at walmart. I am wondering if maybe I need to go to a normal eye doctors office to get the full insurance benefits.

for glasses and contacts...sure...for anything else...i dont think so...
due to all the eye surgery ive had...i normally find the best doctor my insureance will pay for...if you have insurance...do the same

You may want to check with your insurance about that. They probably have a website, and if not, you can probably call them up and ask.

No problems with Wal-Mart.

Concern would be your insurance carrier (if applicable)

No. They won't do a good job of MAKING SURE you get the right prescription which will result in damage to your vision, and their frames tend to be crap.
