Are photoshop 6 files (.psd) compatible with photoshop 5?

yeah but when i do it, i get the usual choice of formats like .jpg, .gif., .png, then i get some weird pshop formats i have never heard of like .psd, .pdd, .pds, and .pdp.

psd is a photoshop file extension i believe. I know ps5 used psd as well
should be compatible i think
