Are Philips monitors any good?

I need to buy a new monitor. I'm considering a Philips monitor from Staples. Are Philips monitors any good?

My friend has one and it's good for just your everyday basic tasks, nothing to compare against a sony or anything though.

Can you possibly tell me what model that is? They have many different models (although I'm not sure which ones were at Staples). Maybe some Philips monitors are better than that. (?)

I am looking at you on a Philips 109-B20 19" real flat screen I bought at Office Depot in March. Personally, I think it is a great purchase. I shopped long and hard before upgrading my monitor and this one stood out from the crowd. If you have to have the aperture grille rather than the shadow mask go with the 109-P20. The cost difference wasn't worth it to me because the color is just peachy on the B20.

All I do is game and nef here a bit. All my games look very nice on the Philips. The warranty also sold me on the brand. Guaranteed 48 hour home replacement with any RMA (not that I expect to need it) for the first year, standard shipping the next 2 years.

Also in its favor is the fact it is made to take up less space than your average bear and weighs half as much as well.

I also have a 109B20 and I find it to be a solid, competent monitor. I also have an aperture grill monitor, but I don't like the stabilizing wires.
If you can purchase a monitor at a brick and mortar shop, do so. The immediate gratification and the shipping cost and time saved, if needing to RMA, will IMO, offset the price difference. You will know if a monitor is misbehaving shortly after getting it up and running. So, if there's a problem, you can return it immediately and get it exchanged.
I agree with everything NATO has said. I paid $250US for the Philips, new @ Office Depot.

I like Phillips. They are not top of the line, but they have failry consistent quality.

I had a run of the mill 17" for years. Actually about 1 year after I bought it I had problems with it getting blurry. I took it to a Phillips repair center and found out that a vendor at a comp show had sold me a refurb who's factory warranty was expired. They treated me as if I had bought it new though and wound up giving me a brand new monitor. Because of the great service they earned me respect.

Although after years of service it blew up last year and I would up buying a Viewsonic because it was cheap and in stock at the store (I've been very happy with the Viewsonic.)
