Are people who create "email forwards" the biggest idiots ever??

I personally don't get any of this crap, but my girlfriend, and it seems girls in general, gets them all the time....

You know the ones:

"Hotmail is going to be shut down unless you forward this to 20 of your friends within the next 24 hours"

"XXXXXXXX is dying of feline leukemia, if you forward this to 20 of your friends, Donald Trump will pay $5.00 for every person who receives this message toward the treatment"

"Microsoft is testing the new email tracking system and wants you to forward this on to everyone you know. If you help you will get $5.00 for every person you send it do, and will receive a check in the mail in a week!"

"If you send this cheesy and moronic poem on to 10 people, you will meet a new boyfriend this week. If you send this ridiculous crap to 20 people you will live happily ever after and be the richest people ever..."

______________________

Now, I know there are some gullible people in the world, and people who believe this crap are IDIOTS for thinking this is real... and I'm not going to go into how dumb they are for believing that they will receive a check in the mail in a week when they DON'T EVEN GIVE OUT THEIR ADDRESSES!!

______________________

My beef is mainly with the dolts who decide to compose this stuff in the first place... What can they possibly be getting out of this and how can somebody have so much free time to do this junk??

...Grrr, I'm not going to go into spammers today ;)

Any insight on this BS??

- and in advance, if you're going to personally attack me for noticing stuff like this, STFU and get outta here, we don't care for your negativity.

No, the biggest idiots ever are the ones that believe the emails. I can't tell you how many times I've had people tell me Bill Gates was going to send them a check because the forwarded an email to 3 dozen people.

Even better... the people who do more about the emails than deleting them -including posting on forums with rants. :p ;)

Actually, most people that forward them are ignorant and/or uninformed.

I know adults and even college students (oddly, all women) who forward them on religiously..... I wonder if they find it odd that they haven't received any of the $4284890264820 that they should be owed for being such faithful email helpers!! I mean, they're helping out the Microsoft Mail Tracking System!

I think they should all pay $4284890264820 for all of the bandwidth they have wasted and employer's time they have wasted as well.

The even more annoying ones are the sappy forwarded religious stories. I get these all the time from my Christian friends.... "if you really love Jesus, you will forward this on to ten people plus the person who sent it to you..." I never send it on, ever. Too much time wasted, plus I don't want to piss off my friends by forwarding crap.

(my thoughts reposted from other thread)
I think you should pass some sort of Internet IQ test before you are allowed access to the "Forward" and "Reply to All" buttons in an email program :)

I've instilled a good deal of scepticism into my mother who often is the one to tell her coworkers not to be dolts.
There was a fiasco of sorts when I first went to college, one of my enterprising HS classmates managed to compile a fairly exhaustive list of e-mail addresses of about 150 people in my graduating class. In 1997, most of my high school classmates still felt that computers were weird and the internet was for nerds. Being a nerd, I had internet access for 2 years and e-mail in one form or another for 4. Between that and my new friends at college, I'm sure you all can sympathize when I say "There is no e-mail forward I have not yet seen."
Now, bear in mind that I don't hold any grudges. Any of the fairly small number of people from my high school wants to set aside our past differences and start talking now, I'm open to that.
So when the list started, for about 6 weeks, it was a constant trickle of "What I'm Doing Now" stories. It was cool to read them. People I had pegged as complete losers sounded very well-adjusted and people who I thought would always do well in college came back with complete horror stories.
It was fun to catch up with old friends and meet friends I never knew I had before, and it was fun to keep the old hometown rumor pump primed.

However, after those first 6 weeks, someone posted a forward. And then someone else posted another. People were replying back to the entire list with more forwards and people who weren't on the list but got the address from the forwarded list were now including members of the list in forwards. It quickly snowballed into a daily flood of forwards and replies, often from people I ha never even heard of.

Finally, I asked if people would kindly stop sending forwards to me. I said they were welcome to e-mail me as much as they pleased but please edit my name off the list when you forward, or create a new list of people who don't want forwards.
I was largely returned with a deluge of "don't be such a jerk, blah, blah, blah." People were OFFENDED that I didn't want to get their stupid chain letters!!! It was whack.
Anyway, it took me about a week of asking nicely followed by a week of demanding followed by one "The next person who sends me a forward is getting reported to their Admins" to get them to stop.

Now when I talk to people from HS they often complain about all the forwards they get from classmates and how the people who forward them are jerks.
How the tables turn :)

Oh yea...all the people who believe and send on that ICQ message about ICQ charging for their services unless this ICQ message gets passed along to everyone on the service :|

Yeah, i think the ICQ messages are the worst. Like you'd have to be straight braindead to believe them.

"forward this to your entire contact list, or mirablils will starts changing $10 for ICQ".

and exactly how would eating bandwidth help the cause? damn.
