Than a few hours later we get an e-mail basically saying because some people complained of "financial hardship" it would cause they were going to move it up to the 12th. That got me thinking, are people living so tight that an extra day causes hardship? This is a small company but except for part-timers everyone makes at least 30k a year. I realize some people mentally move up payday if the 15th falls on the weekend but it still shouldn't break the bank...

doesnt matter if u make $30k or $150k.

you can live paycheck to paycheck if u r horrible w/$.

Aren't you special. Not everyone has that luxury. Some people live paycheck to paycheck cause of lifestyle. Some people out of need.

One day you might be in the same situation.

These are working professionals making a decent wage. I think having enough money in your bank so that you aren't constantly fearing running out is called being a responsible adult. Has absolutely nothing to do with how much money you make. Any financial advisor would tell you the same thing.

Dunbar, I think you have reached that point where you realize most people are stupid.

2 months checking
6 months savings

Live it, learn it, love it.

Why 2 months checking? ah.. not everyone banks online and has the time to visit a bank the day before the check is mailed?

maybe the people complaining have illegitimate children they need to pay because Uncle Sam told them to. There are many, many reasons they could be wanting it on the 15th as usual. Some people just don't like change. They could be doing just as well as you and still complain about it. Just out of curiousity does your company pay every two weeks or monthly?

2 months expenses to absorb any and all delays, no matter what.

Yeah, that one day could mean hundreds in fees and over draft charges for some. Its a tough spot. You pay more for being poor.

It's sleezy that your bank would not deposit the payroll on the last business day before the 15th. Mine does...

mine too.

I agree it's sleazy (well more tacky than sleazy) and they should have scheduled it on the 12th from the start. I just found it far more interesting that people were so close to the a zero bank balance this was a major issue for them.

BTW, we get paid twice a month (1st and 15th).

Um. Yes. I know a guy who doesn't make a lot of money, and he has a daughter. The sad part is probably that he's not only paycheck to paycheck, but he's likely a week or two behind as it is. He does work on the side, and he doesn't spend money on lunch, or anything that a lot of us take for granted. Knowing a guy like him, it's hard for me to sit here and criticize some guy for wanting to get paid a day early or something like that.

Or it could be that you have some stingy money-grabbing bastards who'll lie about financial hardship or some BS to get paid early. Some people get wacky about money like that.

My bank is definitely not closed on the 15th. I will end up getting a personal day for working that day, but we will be available and processing transactions as normal.

Also, I don't think it's the bank that was causing the problem. I would guess the company's payroll gets submitted on a day (Monday, apparently) and the bank deals with it as time allows. Since they are closed Monday, they will process it on Tuesday. Banks don't work miracles; if they don't know what to do with some money, then they do nothing with it.

great link and interesting articles

The same people in these situations are the same ones in most cases that have unneccesary luxuries like DSL/Cable, cell phone etc.

I saw this article about the "poor" 20's something. And the "poor" 20 something said she was barely getting by and she needed to stop going out to the bar everynight. WTF? No wonder you're barely getting by.

Personally, I dont think one day should make a difference, no matter how pressed you are for cash. But everyone's financial situation is different.
