Just read this in a "scientific" article on the net :
QUOTE -- Children in poor countries are born because their parents need help in the fields and someone to care for them in their old age -- END QUOTE.
Now I will admit that children do tend to serve both purposes in the third world, claiming these as reasons for them being born strikes me as absurdly stupid.
OK, I assume that anyone capable of authoring a coherent article is old enough to know about the birds and bees......... maybe not.
