Are people really this stupid?

Leros

So I'm at a red light. Traffic is flying across the intersection. For some reason, while cross traffic is still going, the right turn light turns green. A guy pulls out and is immediately hit by a car in the cross traffic.

Why are people so stupid?

I've got another dumb one for ya:

My dad's friend was the 2nd car at an intersection, and they had a red light. He starts writing a check or somthing on his steering wheel and accidently honks his horn. The lady in front of him, without looking apparently, heard the horn and figured she was missing something so she floored it into the intersection (still red light) and got t-boned. Everybody was alright, and my dad's friend stuck around till the cops came. The lady was pissed and blamed him, but the cops told her it wasn't his fault she didn't look first.

You want stupid?

So I'm driving on Route 66 in heavy traffic (think about 1/2 a car width between, but moving at 60 mph, all 4 lanes), and some moron lady decides to switch into my lane. While I'm there. I had to slam on my breaks and drop behind (nearly got rear-ended in the process), got a good look at her as I did. She was on her cell and facing the opposite direction (saw the back of her head). She did realize it when she was halfway into my former position, but by that point it didn't make much difference. I had a nice long vengeance honk. :|

Well... yeah, it was her fault. NEVER pull out into an intersection without looking.

Which person in your story are you referring to as stupid?

edit: Was there a malfunction in the lights that caused the right turn light to go green when it shouldn't have?

Either the lights malfunctioned or everybody was running the red light for a good 10 seconds. Either way the driver was a moron for blindly trusting the lights and not looking.

What, you're suppose to stop at green lights now to check for traffic, just in case?

When cross traffic is flying by in front of you, it's a good idea to stop.

He started at rest. He was at a red light. There was cross traffic for a good few minutes. Then the light turned green with cross traffic still going.

Even then, I always check for cross traffic. Even if traffic is flowing well in my direction, I slow down a bit and hover on the brake every time I get near an intersection. People run red lights and you need to pay attention when crossing an intersection even if you have a green light.

This is especially true in L.A. Intersections aren't clear till at least 5 seconds after a light change.

It is pretty stupid to not at least look when cross traffic is flying like that.

However it's also stupid for ppl to run the red lights like that if in fact it was not a malfunction in lights.

This reminds me of one accident I saw, between a car going straight through an intersection and a car making a turn. Both cars were going quite slowly as they approached each other, and it seems as though each one thought the other would stop, as they both kept going until they crunched into each other, as if in slow motion pretty much. People can be ridiculous.

Actually...

While you have the right of way at a green light, you are still supposed to check that the intersection is clear before proceeding after the light changes from red to green. This should have been taught in driver's ed.

Yes, it's the person running the red light who will get cited, but personally I would rather avoid the accident in the first place and not have to deal with getting my car repaired.

So you're one of those fuckers that slow down traffic for everyone else! Drivers in Austin are terrible, between people not being able to stay in their lane and driving too slow it's frustrating.

Do you honestly not feel safe crossing through an intersection? I can understand being cautious if the light just turned green and you were approaching the intersection and not stopped yet, but being slowing down at every light to make sure it's clear.... GET OUT OF MY WAY.

No, that's where one needs talent to pull it off.

step 1 place knee under sterring wheel

step 2 speed up to said offender

step 3 lift left arm

step 4 raise middle finger

step 5 honk horn with right arm while simultaneously waving middle finger at offender.

this takes years of mastery for the average person, but once every millenum we have that special person who masters it at the tender age of 15.
