Are pci-e power supply power cables needed for every pci-e card? Or does only the video card need to be powered by a pci-e power cable?

Thanks

So far just the hi-end video cards need the extra juice.

Though I suspect an expansion card with a butt-load of USB 2 ports might need a little extra power.
Perhaps also a RAID 5 SCSI controller, but probably not.
Heck, I havent even seen any SCSI or RAID controllers for PCIe.

I have a lower end ATI PCI-e video card that is totally bus powered; no external power is required

I believe all 7600gt cards don't need the extra power connection (I have an xfx card). It is a pretty fast card too (mid range I would say - not high end)

Sounds right...I ordered a fanless eVGA 7600GS for a friend's system and it didn't require a PCI-e power cable.

Only Graphics cards with power hungry GPU's. My Areca PCIe RAID card doesn't need a power connector.
