Are parents becoming too lenient these days or are they just *&$kin' retarded?

NFS4

No Lifer
So I was in the Dollar Tree yesterday afternoon getting some bathroom cleaning supplies and I end up getting in line behind a late 30's lady who has a whole cartload of crap (perfect timing  ). Well, she has three little hellion kids with her (ages ~3 yo girl, 6 yo girl, 8 yo boy). While at the checkout line, the oldest girl and the boy are doing their BEST imitation of the "Mom, he's touching me...I'm NOT TOUCHING YOU" commercial. Irritating as hell. She tell them to stop or they won't get any toys. They don't listen to her, they just keep on and on getting louder and louder. They continue to scream and act like little pricks.

Then the eldest girl decides that she's tired of that, so she decides to play "let's see how many things I can touch on the counter before mommy gets fed up with me." Again, the mom says "stop that" and of course the little demon keeps on and on.

All the while, the little 3 year old is rolling around in the floor and grabbing at people's legs that come into the store. Mom tells her "get back over here." Mom has no control. Then the little 3 year old pushes the door open to get out of the store and starts WALKING OUTSIDE (towards a busy parking lot area)!!!!!!! The two older hellions are running around the front of the store so they don't see her going out, but the mom does. Instead of running after her, she just looks out the window to make sure she doesn't go anywhere while she finishes checking out and starts craning her neck back and forth.

Luckily the mom was just paying for her stuff at that time and managed to get out and get her little child, but WTF? When the finally left, the cashier (older lady in her late 60's or so) just looked at me and said "That's a dumb broad" and I just nodded in approval.

I mean, do parents have no control anymore?

the three kids are all very young and the mother was by herself. cut her some slack. im sure its not like this everytime the four of them go out, but something like this is bound to happen once in a while....

Bah, I see it everywhere. I just remember that when I was kid, my parents didn't let me get away with sh!t like that. All my dad had to do was look at me and would shut the hell up.

And if it were my aunts or uncles, they'd would smack their asses in public

No, some parents are just retarded.

It's f'd up where the hippy generation is doing a better job raising children then this batch.

All it would take is a backhand or 2

I get a lot of stuff from dollar stores (cleaning supplies for my car mostly) too so don't feel bad. People are lenient on their kids. They get embarassed about spanking them or speaking too loudly in public like a bunch of pvssies.

Kids will be kids, but there is no reason for little pukes to keep acting up in public after you tell them to STOP.

Most parents choose not to control their kids. Parents today were raised by the carefree hippy generation. Thus you know the parents today didn't have many restrictions as kids. They place even fewer on the kids today.

I've seen time after time that a kid is out of control, a parent says stop, the kid ignores the parent, and the parent does nothing. If you don't back up your threats, they will go nowhere.

I have an aunt and uncle who believe that kids should be seen and not heard. They back up their threats, and their kids are little angels.

Topic Summary: ...Or is it that the kids are dumber these days?

I vote for: All of the above.
🙂

Meh. My parents were HUGE flower children. My mom's in her fifties and still smokes pot. However, she wasn't afraid to smack me upside the head or across the ass when I misbehaved. Same with my dad.

a single backhand usually worked for me.

heh.

When I was a kid I had to behave or my father would take me out into the parking lot and whip my ass!

All three children should have had their bottom's so red they couldn't sit down!

i agree NFS4. i see that $hit everywhere. kids throwing temper tantrums and causing a scene in public. if i did that, i got smacked in front of everybody. if my mom made eyes at me, id just sit down and shut the hell up. not so much anymore...these kids are controlling their parents

Myself and my brother were never like this, my dad would give me a look and thats all it took, or my mom would say "don't make me get your dad" and we'd stfu.

LOL, my dad would look at me and point to his belt...that's all it took 😀

Exactly, I have a nephew that is Satan reborn simply because all his parents do is threaten him

It's kind of hard to get all 3 kids with one sweeping backhand 🙂

Public ass smacking means DCF visits these days, but that's no excuse to le tkids run rampant.
Every parent faces challenges and has good days and bad days, and none of them are interested in what childless 25 year-olds think.

25? Sh!t, I ain't there yet...whoosh 😛

You're right. I don't know what her situation is, but I know that if you don't teach your kids to STFU when they're at home, they'll make a mockery every chance that they can get when they get in public.
