We are completely off topic here... the point is... the NFL is in the midst of a major Pvssification.

Here's the problem: The NFL glorifies big hits. High speed collisions, knock a guy onto his back, etc. To make the highlight reel, you're gonna see players launch themselves at their opponents instead of simply wrapping them up and bringing them down.

When this happens to a game, players need to be protected. I'm sure in rugby, you never try to stop a player by throwing your head at theirs. Otherwise, rugby players would be asking for helmets too.

But what about when they actually get sacked?...
When they have to run the ball???

Well they're not allowed to get hit in the head when being sacked... and they can always slide feet first when running.... I don't see the problem...

Do you watch football. You sound like the pansy, go back to watching ice skating. They get hit, hard. Id love to see you get hit full force by a 320lb lineman without a helmet. pussy.

Owners are the ones that make those rules.
Owners are also the ones that give those quarterbacks $100 million contracts.

You do the math.

Exactly. Because football is so stop-and-go you pretty much get the offense and defense colliding with each other at 100% every second of the game.

You can joke that football players are pansies because they wear all the protective gear and that Rugby players are tough because they don't - however the simple fact that football players do wear the protective gear is proof in and of itself that the sport is far more dangerous as it is played.

The only ones that can potentially come in and easily mesh do so as kickers/punters...pretty much the same deal as soccer players.

Tell you what: You go out there and take hits for an entire game, then come back and post about what pussies these guys are.

Two completely different sports... the athletes are not really compareable...

The real point though was that I wasn't a wussyboy who had no right to call the NFL QBs wussyboys....
Is your wife now allowing you to buy and drink Soy Milk?

god.. dont even get me started on the slide rule. If the quarterback has the balls to run, he should be fair game for an ass whooping.

Dude I played rugby all through college.... Allow me to reiterate... the NFL is becoming pretty darn pvssified... just admit it.
Your college rugby hits probably feel like downy soft pillow hits to NFL players.
They're much bigger, stronger and faster. They hit 1000x harder.
That being said, I agree that the roughing calls are ridiculous and change the outcome of games. This is football for god's sake.

... negative. Even when you see a receiver get leveled by some linebacker as he's coming across the middle the receiver still pops up and hustles back to the huddle for the next play. Rugby players lose teeth, dislocate joints, break bones FREQUENTLY. I think the proof is in the pudding here, if you can get up, dust yourself off, and be virtually unscathed I fail to see how it "hurts so much more" than when you're bloody and battered without wearing pads. Sure, most NFL players are faster and stronger (maybe not true of pro rugby tho, those dudes from New Zealand that wear all black are freakin' scary) but at least they're all wearing pads.

Having said that, you really have to protect QBs to some degree otherwise they'd just get torn apart. Throwing the ball opens up your body and getting drilled in the head by someone at full speed when you've just released the ball is just asking for some serious injury. Are some of the calls pointless, yeah, but I think it's for the greater good.

I played semi-pro football for about 7 years. It was always fun when year in and year out, one or two "rugby players" would join the team, running their mouths about how much tougher the ruggers are......... no rugby player ever made it an entire season with out quitting, most left after the first game. They just couldn't take the pounding. Which would you rather have a broken finger or broken ribs? Lots of little bang ups in Rugby, but most of them had never even dreamed of being hit that hard, ever.

Well I have played both Football and Rugby... both are painful... both beat you up... let's stop comparing penis size. It's completely beside the point. The point is... these protect the QB rules are getting out of hand... some of them are necessary... they've been around for years... but they have gotten completely out of hand.

exactly. and if they have the option then you know what they are gonna do, if they wear the helmet for that play you know they are going to run, if not then you know they are goign to throw.

Wow....I wasn't aware that QB's can see into the future and know when they themselves are going to run the ball. They usually do not go into a play and have the QB run the ball. The QB will usualy run the ball when they can't find an open receiver to thow to and there is some open space for them to cover.
