Are newegg's extended warranty plans worth it?

So I'm about to make my first purchase from newegg (abit ip35 pro and some corsair ram) and am wondering if anyone has an opinion on whether it's worth coughing up the additional ~$25 to pay for the newegg 1 Year Replacement Plan. Has anyone had a positive/negative experience with this plan? Thanks!

I don't know about their "extended warranty" plans, but I did send a few items in under their standard 1 year warranty and it went very smoothly.
My keyboard started to die about 10 months after I purchased it, I sent it in to Newegg and had a replacement in about a week.

Statistically, extended warranties are profitable for the seller. Statistically they are not profitable for the buyer. I prefer to be "self insured." Over the long haul it pays off.

That's about the gist of it. Same thing with gambling - the "house" always wins in the long run.

BTW Corsair RAM should have lifetime warranties. Why would you want to pay again for warranty that you already have?

Beside Laptops, or other devices that are luggable or expose to environmental hazards during work or similar activities, the Extended Warrantee is a "Pet Rock".

P.S. For the young ones that do not know what Pet Rock is, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pet_rock

I know first hand about the laptop warranty thing, unfortunately lol.

Prior to buying a laptop, I've never had to use any warranty on anything before, decided to not extend warranty past its initial 1 year. Just a couple months before it expired, the laptop started acting up, and I sent it in, thinking it was probably a one time occurrence.. Just a few weeks after the warranty expires, it broke down and they were going to charge me $600 to repair it.. ouch.

Outside of the laptop though, I've never had any real issues. I heard Newegg was bad for LCDs and Monitors though.

A lot of the time with the generic warranties from the mfg, they will take quite some time to be processed and get a working device (I've had no personal experience with direct mfg RMAs, but I really haven't heard anything pleasant about them).

I have had to RMA things through newegg before, and if you want that assurance that you are protected, it would be worth it to go through newegg just for the speedy service.

just my 2c on the subjec.

Personally I never buy an extended warranty on anything except vehicles, and definitely not something that only cost $150 or so.

Both of the items you are buying already have a manufacturer warranty anyways, so the $25 you'd be paying is not so much for you protection against a dying component, but for ease and speed of getting a replacement if it's needed. Newegg will almost always be much quicker with a replacement item than the manufacturer will, so that is really what you'd be paying for.
