Are newegg a reliable company?

Newegg seem to generally have very competitive prices. But after 3 emails asking:

> Also are the FDD and HDD cables shown in the photo actually included with this
> item?
>
> Finally, if I buy 11 boards from you, will they all be at the same revision
> level?
>
> What is the revision level you are currently shipping?
>

I received the reply:

> Also you will have to contact the manufacturer.

Not very helpful! Especially considering that they *were* able to tell me that the board they sold did
have the LAN connection?

What's the consensus about newegg? Fly-by-nighters?

I would say they are very reliable. I have ordered stuff from them along with many Anandtechers.

You must be really new here. Almost everyone here buys from newegg, they are one of the top on-line vendors. I have purchased thousands of dollars worth of stuff from them, I usually order something at least once a week. Never had a problem that wasn't promptly and satisfactorily resolved. If you have a question for them, pick up the phone and call the toll-free number!

13 posts. Yer, I guess I *am* a bit new here.

Yes, I have seen newegg talked about, but 3 emails to refuse to answer a simple question makes me take pause. My order is gonna be for 12 systems ($3-4000) -- they know that -- and yet they can't be bothered?

Also I'm currently out of the US, coming over to pick up the stuff, so it needs to be right *first* time. I'll pay more for that reliability if I have to.

Or maybe I just got a bad sales-boid? Anyone got a helpful and knowledgable contact there?

I agree, I really like doing business with Newegg. I have built three PCs now on product purchased from Newegg and it has all gone extremely well. I only had to RMA one hard drive back because it was DOA. Very good company and very good prices.

Ian, if its in the photo, they will include it, assuming the manufacturer still includes it. What is nice about 99% of their pictures, is that the pictures are of actually boxes they have opened and taken out the parts for photo's. Ian, if you won't take our word on them, try Reseller Ratings.

Are you really worried about cables?

Well, most people "lurk" for quite a while before making their first posts.

Oh, and it's always been the case that if something's in their photo, then that is exactly what you get. Regarding your question about revisions, most places - especially low-price places - will not guarantee all will be the same. For that kind of service you have to expect to pay a premium price.

And although 12 systems seems like a lot to you, taken in the context of a place that ships thousands per week you are not really a big fish (please don't take offense with that).

Well truthfully, these CSR people don't necessarily have to be computer technicians to land a job at NewEgg. Half of em probably don't even own a PC, they just work there b/c they just have to answer calls and type in a numbers here and there and it lives close to their home. I've dealt with CSR a few times about order changes/inquiries, and although they are very courteous and give good CSR, I wouldn't exactly say they are the sharpest knives in the drawer.

I've spent thousands of bucks at NewEgg and I've never been disappointed. Only quirk in any order from them was last week...it took them a while to ship b/c of my bank card/visa verification. Someone else posted on this, which makes me think it was something with their systems. Was somewhat annoying, but I got excellent service getting it resolved. Only thing that has annoyed me recently about NewEgg is their shipping costs. Yes, overall they do have probably the best options and prices around, but they don't scale their shipping based on what you ship!!! Say for instance you order 1"tiny piece of nothing" that cost $100 each but weigh only an ounce. They'll charge you $5 shipping, which is fine b/c its the base for FedEx. However, if you order 2 "tiny pieces of nothing" that cost $200 and weight 2 ounces, they'll charge you $10 shipping!!! Basically, I've come to the conclusion its not worth trying to stack orders out of convenience or to save on shipping. I'm pretty sure NewEgg builds some shipping costs into their products. This is further illustrated by the different shipping costs between nearly identical or similar items (mobos and video cards). They all have nearly identical dimensions and weight, yet shipping can vary by as much as 100%!!! Annoying :|

Yeah, but even after the shipping, they still have the cheapest prices around. They are a great online store. I totally trust them to get my order right, or correct it speedily.

I would rate Newegg as one of the best. If you're going to order alot of parts, I would also shop Multiwave Direct. I like Multiwave about as good and the shipping is a bit more reasonable on multiple items(sometimes half). Newegg will sometimes give you a break on the shipping, but it normally will take a phone call.

I build alot and have done about $10K with both this year. I rarely stray from these vendors even if it could save a few pennies, unless they are both "out of stock".

Hope that helps. I like to steer business to good vendors. I feel the same about warning about BAD vendors.

My experiences have been really good so far. I just got a new 1.4 Tbird today from them. I'm lovin them for now. Hopefully if they ever mess up, I'll remember that they were awesome in the past.

I've ordered most of the stuff I have in my new comp from newegg (over $500) and I am very satisfied with this company and I certainly will do business with them again.

So far no complaints..They have been great to me.:) We can help them out by rating them at resellersratings.com ;) Also, I tend to agree with Chiz that you can't expect a customer service rep to be able to answer all of your questions. That would be a question for a Tech rep.

I wanna thank all who replied. Seems to be a consensus of opinion!

1. You're right: a $3-4k order doesn't make me a big fish by any means. I was hoping it might have been just enough though to get her bum off her seat and go find out the answer!

2. The point about CSRs .v. tech support is well made. I talk to CSR before the sale and tech spt after, and usually have some similar problem -- you wanna see my email logs from Canon just trying to find out if a printer was in stock! -- and I *think* you may have just clarified it for me!

3. Shipping. Newegg certainly do seem expensive for shipping, but I found that ordering 12 offs *did* seem to decrease the proported (is that a word?) cost. I will see though if they can do me a deal on shipping -- its almost enough for another whole machine at the moment -- and I'll check out Multiwave too. (Hopefully they're stuff doesn't go on and off limit so quickly as newegg's -- its making planning for shipping a real pain).

Again, thanks to all -- sincerly appreciated.

Newegg is just about the only place I shop on-line anymore, I've had nothing but great service and fast shipping.

I have ordered many times from Newegg, they are an excellent company, good prices and good service, I only order from them now, unless they dont stock what I need. I only had one problem with them, it once took them almost a week to get my order sent out, even though the item was in stock, apart from that they have been superb.

<< Newegg certainly do seem expensive for shipping >>

It's called the Pricewatch game. Whenever I see them near the top on a product, I know they are gonna get me on shipping.

Newegg has been one of the best online vendors in my experience. With a recent order for a dozen systems (merry christmas for a school) I had a question about a HSF for which the description was not clear. A quick call to customer service and they resolved the questions. The photos were great for a cheap part - and answered my question but I still called because I needed all the parts to arrive in a timely fashion with no surprises.

WRT shipping, there is a definitely some economy of scale ($58->$38 for last order consolidation for three groups of items including a case) with larger orders but it seems more modest than other stores. However, you get what you pay for and even if newegg doesn't have the lowest price it is close enough knowing the service that they will provide.

I thought readers here might be amused by my latest email from the delightful Mxxxxx, sent before I started the thread here, the reply only just received.

The question:
.............

Sorry, I don't understand this.

You *are* able to confirm that the version you are selling *does* have the LAN option, but you are *uanble* to tell me if it has the cables as shown in the photo on your web site nor what revision you are currently shipping??!

How on earth is the manufacturer in Taiwan gonna know what version you have in stock?!

Her reply:
..........

Dear Customer

Dear Valued Customer -
I am sorry. We do not offer any technical assistance. We also do not offer advice on compatibility of items. We are not technicians, only quality retailers with low prices. Please contact the manufacturers for accurate answers to your technical questions.

..........
Edited to remove name of party. Bad form Ian.

NewEgg is top notch, great handling RMAs in my experience too. Only complaint I have with them is they sometimes piddle around for 2-3 days after your order before they ship. I really like those tiny vendors that work at the speed of light such as CrazyPC, Sidewinder, Plycon, So-Trick Computers, etc. They usually bust your order out the door within 2 hours of receiving it, of course they aren't really in the same competitive area as vendors such as NewEgg, mostly specialty stuff.

newegg usually has the lowest prices best selection and it has 7.0 resellerratings by real users. It is also bizrate certified and bbb online certified.

I wish i knew about them before. If you cannot find a random deal, goto newegg.com they are good. :)

Haha, cool, I got the same form letter response from Newegg that IanWorthington got from a letter before I bought my mainboard. After that I never talked to them again, except to RMA stuff...

I think you should go to local stores to buy, so that you can see the mb revision and optional features first. For sure, you've to pay more than any online only store.
