Are new car deals going to improve or worsen after the summer?

Been looking for a new car but wife wants to wait until after the summer. It seems that many of the dealers in my area have little stock and no plans to obtain more. If I wait will I be looking at better or worse deals and will there be enough to choose from. Looking mostly at imports.

If looking for a chrysler then the time is now if you live near a dealer that is closing.

If you want a GM car wait until the filing and see if the dealers get closed sooner then later.

For others, for now, wait until GM and Chrysler flood the market with cheap cars and then the sales will start.

i was at the local Honda/Toyota Dealers today, they were right next to each other. and they had plenty of accords/camrys/civics/corollas/suv's in stock in all different trim levels and colors. I spec'd one out from each just for fun and they said delivery would be in a week or two.

they also gave me some killer deals at or a little below invoice with low apr

make sure they are not 10's. Toyota already got rid of most of their inventory on camrys. In MA, Camry is selling higher now than last month b/c the supply on 09's is going away, but their is still "heavy" demand for it. They even have 2010 Corollas and Camrys on the lots now and one dealership near me already got rid of all their 09 Corollas and just have the 2010s. As for your original question....you cannot predict it b/c it is dependant on how well they sell cars in the coming months. Toyota got VERY aggressive last month to the point of even letting dealers give customers the rebate AND financing near promotional rates because Easter sales were slim to none.

Why would anyone buy a car from a company that isn't going to have any support in a few months? Great, you got a killer deal on a Chrysler but now you have to drive or tow it 150 miles to get it serviced.

For just about any make or model (with rare exceptions) now is probably the best time to get a deal. The average life of a car in the US is reaching historic limits=pent up demand.

One possible exception-if you are looking for a GM car, I'd wait until after June 1st to see if they do file bankruptcy. If so, investigate the situation with them closing dealers more closely. Because of all the state laws protecting dealers, i don't really expect them to be purging their dealerships to any large extent unless a bankruptcy is filed.

If you plan on financing, my best guess is that interest rates really can't go much lower than they are now.

Your wife seems to be counting on a large end of model year inventory. That's risky, especially with essentially all the manufacturers already cutting current production.

My dad just bought a new Malibu, and between the original quote and the hemming and hawing the price went up so he ended paying more than the first offer

Then I guess no one should buy a toyota or honda as there are less dealers for those lines per your line of thinking.

That his dad was a dumbass. Compman25 cleared that up for us. 😛

GM took back some of the incentives that were available to the dealer changing the price.
Canadian incentives are different than the US
