I am considering the NEC MultiSync® FE950 . It is 313$ with 1280 at 89hz up to 1792 X 1344 @ 55 to 68 Hz. I have no where to look at them , how do they look to you all out there. My neighbor has a 18"LCD which looks pretty good.

Also was considering the 21" NEC(683$) over the cheaper Sony 21"(543$) The NEC has higher refresh at higher res.

BASICALLY ARE THE NEC KNOW TO BE GOOD MONITORS?

eno, the NEC FE950 is a great monitor, my friend bought one a while back and he loves it. If you want to see it on display, my local Staples has them on display, hope this helps.

I have two FE950s on my desk at work. I would only replace them with LCDs. The CRTs are fantastic.

Though i know nothing about the FE950, i can speak of the longevity of NEC monitors, I have 2 an Multisync 3D that was manufactured in 1989:Q thats still going strong, and a Multisync Xv15+ that works wonderfuly as well!

While looking for 19" about a year ago, I originally purchased NEC FP950 (better refresh and extra BNC plus USB control) . It suffered from bad geometry and ghosting; I returned it and bought Sony G400. I needed another monitor about 1/2 year ago, and bought NEC FE950. This NEC has geometry OK and no ghosting as my first, but suffers from visible red colorization in the lower right corner... also, it's not as sharp as Sony....

I don't say they are bad monitors, but I'd rather buy Sony or maybe Samsung after my experience with NEC's.

I love my FE700 except for the scratches in the anti-glare coating :(. The picture quality is great and the text is sharp across the entire screen. The only thing that beat it is my 15" screen on my Dell laptop running at 1400x1050.;)

I run two NECs on my computer: a MultiSync 4FGe and a MultiSync 3FGx. They look really cool in dual setup because they are the exact same shape.

So go for the cheaper NEC 19" and the cheaper 21" Sony or more expensive 19" SOny and 22"NEC

If you want NEC, either go with the low-end AS..F series (although it's not AG) or the high-end FP series.
FE series is just little bit cheaper than FP series, not a good buy.

Anything NEC makes is generally a safe bet to buy, they aren't the cheapest, but they make solid products. Their products aren't the best, but they are good.
