Are my video settings my problem???

:|I have the Asus 7700 and since I've built this machine, I get alot of random lock-ups. I searched Tom's hardware and tried many of the things suggested, no change. I've tried installing the latest 4 in 1 drivers, problem still exist. Rarely do I get the BSD, just "soft" lock ups with little black lines, horiz., on the bottom two inches of my screen. I was going to install XP, cuz I was thinking I have a stability problem, I'm just grabbing at straws now. My mobo is the Kt7A. Any ideas???
