Are my temps too high?

I have an Intel Q6600(G0) on an Asus P5K-E with an Arctic Cooler Freezer 7 Pro using Arctic Silver Ceramic thermal compound at stock voltage. I just bumped my FSB to 333Mhz to bring the CPU to 3.0Ghz. At idle, the first two of the cores are around 45* and the second two at 38*. When I ran Prime95 25.5 for 15 min, my temps sailed up to 72* on the first two cores and 60* on the second two. This sounds hot to me.

I have an Antec P160 with two 120mm fans, so airflow isn't a problem. I have installed many HSF's, so I know the AC Freezer 7 Pro has been installed correctly. Everything I have heard is the G0 stepping can do 3.0Ghz in it's sleep, but mine is running hot.

Any suggestions?

Also...

I am using Core Temp to monitor my temps, and CPU-Z to get the info about my CPU. My stock voltage is 1.264V. What is the safe thermal limit of the G0 Q6600?

72 is too hot, IMO.

I have a Q6600 G0 stepping running at 3.0ghz as of last night, and during Prime95 it got up to a max of about 62C, which I thought was pushing it. Never gets anywhere near that hot doing anything else, though.
It's sitting at 39 right now. I guess it's possible that the temps are reading incorrectly, too. I don't see how there could be that much difference.

I'm using a Thermaltake Max Orb. I have a rear case fan and my case has one of those "tunnel" tube things right above the cpu fan to get fresh air. Don't know how the Max Orb compares to your fan.

What kind of voltage are you running? Maybe try backing it down a bit. That does seem like a big jump in temp, esp. considering your idle temps are about pretty close to mine.

Do you have your cpu fan set to go 100% at a certain temp? I set mine to go to 100% at either 55 or 60, can't remember right now.

It's on it's 2nd cooler, and the same thing happened with both of them, cores 1 & 2 run hotter than cores 3 & 4.

Voltages are stock at 1.264V, maybe if I reduce that a bit?

As far as I know, the fan on the AC Freezer 7 Pro runs at full all the time.

Yeah that would be a bit hot. At 3.51@1.38v my Q6600 idles core 1&2 at 31C and core 3&4 at 35C with a Tuniq Tower 120. Load I hit 55C and 58C respectively after hours of Prime 95ing.

Did you use enough thermal paste? And double check again for proper HSF placement? Does your case have a side vent? Perhaps putting a fan on the side vent(if you have one?)

hey I have the exact same set-up. part for part. Disable Q-fan control in the BIOS and use speedfan to control your fan speeds. The Q-fa ncontrol in the BIOS only allows the arctic cooling fan to rev up to 50% speed. That should drop your temps 5 degrees or so.
