Are my speakers magnetically shielded?

I have a pair of Labtec "Spin 70" speakers for my office computer. How can I tell if they're magnetically shielded? I keep some important floppies near them and I'm also concerned about the monitor. Are all PC speakers shielded? Labtec tech-support was no help. They claim not to know.

If you have the speakers near your monitor and you don't see the monitor distort at all, then they most likely are magnetically shielded.

PC speakers are usually magnetically shielded except for maybe the subwoofer.

I think to some extent they have to be to comply with FCC regulations or something. Older ones have more problems than newer ones probably though.

Pick up a speaker, hold close to monitor, and move it around. Do you see color distortion of the display? If not, they're shielded.

if you see color distortion, move it away from ur monitors quick !
My monitor died due to non-magnetically shielded speakers!
It's wasn't pretty! I tell ya!

I just tested my subwoofer and it is definitely not shielded. Is there anything I can buy to put around it to shield it manually?

The sub IS on the floor. If I pump up the bass loud enough my monitor screen KEEPS THE BEAT!

This may be due to power draw rather than any magnetic interference. Try plugging in your sub in a different outlet (possibly on a different circuit) than your computer and see if that makes a difference.

If you hit your monitor does it do the same thing as when your sub is blasting?

Mine does :).
