Are my heatsinks putting the hurt on my cpu's?

Yesterday I took the HS/Fans off of my two XP 1600's to make some changes. In examining my Thaisol HS's, after cleaning off the Arctic Silver, I noticed the cpu cores actually "engraved" the copper on the bottom of the HS. I could almost read mirror images of the stepping/serial # and stuff from the top of the core in the copper bottom of the HS. I've never seen this before. Is the HS putting too much pressure on the core? I don't want them to crack. I reinstalled them and performance is normal.

Don't worry, its completely normal and tells you its making solid contact with the heatsink. If it really bothers you, you can lap off the markings. As long as the same pressure is applied to the core during installation, its very hard to crack your core.

The heat will discolor the copper a little as well.
It's normal. 🙂

Sorry if this shows up twice, the 1st post appered to not go anywhere.

My Athlon screamed in agony when I put my heavy SK-6 on it, told it to shut up and do what you are supposed to do. Hasn't complained yet 😉
