had these hard drive for a couple of years now. 40 gigs (2)

yesterday, while i was browsing the web, the hard drive light on the case lit up and it stay on. soon enough i get the blue screen of death and i have to restart my pc.

once the pc post. my mobo didn't see my harddrive at all. it did see my 2 cd-rw on IDE2 though. but it didn't see my 2 hard drive on IDE1.

Try disconnecting the cdrw.
try a different ribbon.
Try one drive at a time on its own ribbon jumpered as master. Try this on both IDE channels.
Try different psu
Try external hdd caddy (USB or firewire)
If none of these work, then I would say that there is a fair chance that the drives are buggered. It does seem strange that they would both die at the same time.
If they have, then I would think there is a power issue - or maybe you had a surge - consider an online ups.

it's working fine for weeks. it's just did this one day out of the blue. now everytime i turn the computer on, the bios doesn't see any drive attached to the IDE1 channel but it see my 2 CD-rw on channel 2 just fine.
