I just received a couple of Everglide Giganta mousepads. I do like them but I was curious what some other good mousepads are out there. I have heard of ratpads but that's about it.

And, yes, I have searched but people get stuff everyday so I wanted to ask incase there is something new out threre.

I've read reviews of fUnc people seem pretty impressed with it. Personally if you aren't using just the desk with an optical then I'd say go 3M Precission I always liked them because they're soooooo thin.

I'll check them out. Yeah, I have been using the 3m for a looooong time. I like it because it's so thin but I wanted something with a bigger footprint.

Does it have a hard surface? Or is it flexible? I saw some pics of it on their site but I'd like to see a dugtal camera pic of one.

thanks for the info.

I looked at both the func and giganta, but the lack of gel wrist rests made me stick to my standard Waverest. Between work and long gaming sessions, I was very concerned at one point about Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. I don't really need a larger mousing surface, I like to just set movement speed to really high with no acceleration. Keeps my actual wrist/hand movements small, and I rarely have to re-center my mouse by picking it up. I know some people use their desk for their optical mice, but I guess it really depends on the surface finish to determine whether it feels right or not. I don't think a hard or smooth surface feels right with a mouse, I like the textured surface. May have to try the 3M precise mousing surfaces though, as they are grooved but made of plastic(??)

The best mousepads are (not in any particular order)

Everglide Giganta (including optical versions)

Ratpads(I believe a new model is out now)

Steel pad

Icemat(they`ve a black Icemat as well)

Func 1030

Any serious gamer or serious mousepad owner has one of the above.

I`m currently using the black Giganta which is working great with my optical mouse.

I might try the black Icemat soon.
I hear the advantage of the Steel pad and Icemat models is they don`t wear out with use.

:)

Look around they make 2 or 3 sizes now including one that is pretty big (IMHO too big but probably what you're looking for).

I understand some types of pad are better suited to fast "twitch" players (fast slidy surfaces?), and others more for precision slow "aim" movements (more resistance to the mouse but super smooth), hence opinion tends to be split on pads but people who like certain pads also tend to like the same other pads etc. Couldnt tell you which of the above list is which though, I think ratpads are meant to be on the twitch side. I've a ratpad and like it but I think i'd prefer a little more resistance for better aim, maybe a gel wrist support too since mine hurts sometimes and reading that carpel tunnel syndrome (or whatever it is) doesnt sound too appealing. I probably use about 1/3 of the surface of the ratpad.

I have a 1 year old Ratpad, which is warped. Anyone know if you can heat it in the oven, at a low temp ( 200?) and get the warp out??

Thanks Mem ( didn't even think of looking there). However, mine is warped UP not down, from excessive pressure. Guess we'll give it a bend and see what happens :)

EDIT:
Mine has 2 different twists to it, and I can BARELY bend the mofo- definitely tough as hell. Guess the oven is next :)

I dont like the 3M pads that much. When I used to use ball mice, I've went through about three 3M PMS Pads in a years time.

edit: I should add that the 3M pads worked very, very well before they wore out.

Eck how did that happen? I"ve had mine for over 3 years now and it's in perfect shape after using it every day. Occasionally I just clean it with alchahol and water.

Icemat(they`ve a black Icemat as well

Optical mice
Except for Wireless Intellimouse® Explorer and Intellimouse® Explorer 3.0 from Microsoft on the Black Icemat neither of the two Icemats officially supports the use of optical mice.

Wonder how different it could be with a logitech mouse?

Yeah, that's totally strange.
mine is still good too, except the hard plastic doesn't fit into the rubber piece easily.. requires some playing.
but for the person who originally asked, it's a hard surface, that flips over, so you can have smooth or rough surface, and it sits in a rubber base so it won't slide around much.

it's a great pad overall.

I read one guy with a Logitech MX300 is using the black Icemat with no problems so it seems to work ok with the MX series.

Does a mousepad qualify as hardware when you order an OEM version of Windows...?
Hehe

Yea, it's real strange.. it started to happen probably 5 months after I got it.. I've had it for well over a year, maybe close to 2 years now.. :(
