Are most PCI cards compatible with P35 boards?

I don't know if this is a valid concern or not. I'm going to be upgrading to either an ASUS or Gigabyte P35 MB. I remember reading that many people were upset when they upgraded to Gigabyte P965 MBs because their old PCI cards wouldn't work. I don't want to have to upgrade my wireless network if I upgrade to a new P35 board. Any advice?

no, this is not concern. a standard pci card will fit a pci slot, not matter what. pci is pci.

I don't think OP's concern is physical layout of PCI slots?

Apparently there are different versions of standard PCI cards (yes, I'm aware of PCI-e and it's variants). Some may be version 1.x other 2.x etc., and that some people had trouble with some gigabyte boards and their older standard PCI cards.

There's a split in the PCI spec where it goes from 5v to 3v&5v to just 3v. That's gotta be one OLD PCI card to be 5v tho.

Ah no, there are still plenty of cards on the shelves NOW that are 5V-only - just out of plain design silliness, because the vast majority of PCI /chips/ these days is 3.3V-capable anyway.

PCI 2.3 deprecated 5V support, and PCI 3.0 disposes of it altogether.
