I was helping a friend shop for a 42 inch lcd t.v. and noticed companies like Samsung and Sony only have a few older models of 42 inch, and all the new models are 40 inch.
Has 42 inch been dropped from most manufacturers product lines?

There seems to be 2 popular sizes for panel makers to go with in the under 52" range.

Some companies like 40" and 46" panels. (Samsung is one company that makes these sizes)
Some companies like 42" and 47" panels. (LG.Philips is one company that makes these sizes)

It really just depends on who is making the panels for each TV and what each one costs compared to the TV they plan to make. For instance, not every Samsung TV actually uses a Samsung panel, but it makes sense that all of them are 40 and 46 now since that is the sizes they make and they can swap their panels with other companies depending on supply.

whats the real size? they round up u know! 41.6? size is based on the glass they make at the factory. you can fit a certain number of 42" on a certain size glass sheet. as they get more advanced the original sheet gets ever bigger so more bigger screens can be cut out of a single sheet. 40 isn't much smaller so i doubt there would be an advantage, it would probably be wasteful on a sheet that divided evenly into 42" screens. i'm guessing its built by an older factory with smaller glass panels:p
