Are minors allowed to be in a bar/pub?

A few of my friends and I went over to a local pub, as they have, in the back room, a couple pool tables, and we wanted to get a few games in. We were about 1/2 way in our game when I went to order some food, and the guy asked to ID me. Since I'm underage, he told me to leave. Is it legal to have to leave the pub, even if the pool tables are in another room? I'm assuming yes, but I'm just double-checking.

Yea it's different with every bar. Some bars have the ability to let 18 yr olds in, but most of them do not and you have to be 21 to even step foot in the place. Furthermore, a bar could make you leave for whatever reason they please.

I don't think it's illegal as long as you're not consuming alcohol, but any establishment has the right to refuse you service for ANY reason.

It's a liability for you to be in his bar.

🙁. It is a hotel pub, if that means anything. We were gonna order food, so we were really disappointed when we thought we'd found a place near home for us to hang out and play pool. Guess not, though.

Depends on the bar and possibly local/state laws... not sure about NJ, but in Philly there are places that have "18 to party, 21 to drink" nights, and around my college in VA there are lots of bars that still let you in after marking your hands or otherwise indicating not to serve you. Its always up to the owners to decide how they want to run things though - lots of places will card you right at the door just to keep liability down.

All depends on the state. Here in KS it is 18 to enter, but in IN no one under 21 can enter a bar.
