are memory DIMM's faster if they have less 'chips' on them?

So I'm really curious about the 'performance gains' on memory dimms (specifically in my case SO-DIMMs on a 965M board) - my buddy claims that on a 4GB DIMM setup (2x2GB SO-DIMMS) that the DIMMs with 4x512MB modules (per DIMM) are MUCH faster than the 8x256MB ones...

I can understand that with less 'chips' you have less connect points - but does it really make a noticeable difference?

got links to stats?

I don't know of any commercially available memory made with 512mb or 256mb ICs so I think your buddy must be misinforming you. And, when you talk about faster is he stating that one is faster than the other at stock speeds or when OCing? It's a rather vague statement.

Just look for speeds and latency ratings. If you really want to look into it see if you're getting ICs from Micron or whatever company and see what's better.
