Yes, they are. Overseas there are still places that differentiate between Visa and Master Card (in the US they are essentially identical), and Master Card seems to be more widely accepted.

Actually, it's advisable to pay with your Mastercard as much as you can. Since you are using their money, they will get the best rate possible. You don't have to pay extra fees or anything like when changing paper money to another currency.

Hotels, restaurants, and anything big that I buy when in Europe always goes on my CC. I had a VISA card and I never had problems using. Everywhere I went that took CCs took both MC and VI.

As far as I know, it's accepted worldwide. Everywhere I go generally will accept Visa/mastercard. :)

the best place to use your Mastercard are the money hungry baseball stadiums to buy over priced food and baseball merchandise

Be careful, many place in Europe call it the EuroCard not the MasterCard even though they are the same thing. I remember once in a chineese restaurant in Germany I had this difficulty. I barely speak German, they barely spoke German too. I had to do my best to point out that the little picture of overlapping red and yellow circles was the same. Best Chineese food I've ever had though.
