Are Mad Dog (Artec) CD burners any good?

I just bought a $10 after rebate CDRW drive at Officemax this weekend and instead of the regular beige drive that they were offering for the sale, OM substituted a black Mad Dog cd burner instead. I looked up the model numbers on Google and it's an Artec drive model number WRR-52Z.

Does anyone have any experience with it? Is this drive any good?

TIA,

I'm not sure about the CD Burner but Artec makes damn good DVD drives that are always highly rated. If the company follows a like quality philosophy across product lines you might be lucky, but for $10 who fricken cares.

I know.. Who cares at $10. Maybe I should've omitted what I paid and just asked about Artec drives in general. I just wanted to see if it was another BTC or Top-G drive. The bezel looks pretty cheap, but then again, I don't like to judge a book by its cover.

Thanks again.

After using a MADDOG 52x CDROM drive I think I'll stay away from their products for a while. That drive was loud, slow, and less reliable than some of the generic stuff I got in other places. There are so many vendors in this field that I would recommend anyone else...

I'm not a fan of Mad Dog by any means, and i fully argree with Starcutters statement..

Hell you can get a Lite-On 48x for like 20 buc.. Better drive, with nice audio extraction speeds.

I've had excellent luck with maddog products (52x CDRW, Geforce4 MX440 AGP card w/ samsung chips, not some generic stuff, and a decent cooler) and have been using both the mentioned products for around 6 months with everyday use. Then you have to consider the cd burners have a 2 year warranty and the videocards have a lifetime warranty THAT EVEN COVERS THE FAN. They're based out of CA, have a mailing address, not a po box, and have tech support/sales lines that aren't busy.

That's all I care about in a company, decent products they stand behind.

The only thing that pissed me off about the videocard was it didn't include a video cable, even though the box says it should. I called them up and they said they'd mail me one for 3.95 (shipping cost) at which point I told them I could buy one locally for less than that.

Has anyone that purchased a Mad Dog 52x cd burner recently gotten anything other than a black drive? That's all I see out there now is the black drives and I want the white one. Even the order page where I ordered the drive showed a box with a white drive, but when I received the drive it was a box with a black drive on front and a black drive inside of course.

I never thought that it would be this tough to get a white drive.

I baught one from officemax recently and it was white. I assume you mean the 52x24x52 CD-RW?

BTW I've had no problems with any CD/DVD/DVDRW/CDRW drives. Heck, I have an old Lite-On 32x CDROM in my PII-266

(I think my PII-266Mhz outperformes my celeron 2.6Ghz, crappy celerons (
:clock: :Q  :frown: :disgust: :| :smashing crappy CPU; these were my facial expressions after I realized just how bad celerons are.)

Celerons blow! I remember comparing 3 systems. A Duron 750 system, Dell Celeron 900 and a Pentium Pro 200mhz. system. The Duron system was clearly faster and the Pentium Pro 200 mhz system didn't seem too far off from the Celeron 900.

I wonder why there are only black drives in my area? I am referring to the 52x24x52 cd burner.
