I need to get brighter lights because my stock camry lights in the 96 model SUCK! I can't see crap with them and i think they might even have caused me an accident one time! I've decided to get HID look alikes........I see ebay has lots of 55w or 65w input and 100+w output 5000K bulbs........are these a good idea? I know not to get 100+w input bulbs cause my friend told me about it.

They are garbage. I bought some for my SUV as driving lights and after a week, they melted. They supposedly have a lifetime warranty but you have to ship them back to them and pay like a $6 shipping fee plus other costs which makes returning them moot.

Lots of other people I've spoken to have had the same complaints.

You are better off getting Sylvania Silver Stars.

Just be carefull, if you get the blue or green tinted lights - they are illegal - big fines, sometimes the cop that pulls you over will even take them!

Translation:
I want to do some mild modding to my car. Fake HID lights are cheap, easy, and I think they look cool. But I know that if I say that on here, you're all going to call me a ricer, so instead I'll say that I need them because they're brighter.

They are just cheapie 4000K lamps dipped to look 5000K.

If you really want the 5000K look you really need to get HIDs. I have 5000K 35W HIDs on my MDX (the driving lights are 4000K) with cheapie 5000K 100W Halogen highbeams and my HIDs completely outshine the highs.

The Silver Stars will give you a clean white look. Maybe not the blueish tint you want but if you get halogens, they won't really look that good plus they probably won't last.

Silverstars are the best - I have them in my 200sx, and they KICK ass!!! They look great if your headlights are crystal clear ;)

Silverstars are supposed to be the best widely available, street legal, whitest bulbs. I've heard that they burn out faster than stock though, but this is true of any whiter than stock bulb.

I had some GE whites in my car for a while and IMO I do see better with them. Mainly signs and reflectors seem to be brighter. Unfortunately they burn out fast so my next set I bought high output/stock color bulbs. Nothing special this time around but I still see fine.

The lights on ebay look blue because the bulbs have been dyed blue. That's what they basically are. Cheap lights dyed blue. The 100W high beams on my car are very weak because the blue tint takes away alot of the light.

IMO, I really don't think they are worth it. They don't really look that good, go bad easily and cost just as much to return as it is to buy a new set. You are really better off getting some Sylvanias or PIAAs.
