I prefer Logitech. I find my Loigitech dual optical to be a little more precise then the MS optical mice I have tried.

My honest opinion is Logitech mice(MX series) are the best optical mice available, they track better then any other optical mice, the build quality on Logitech mice is superior to Microsoft mice in general.

The main advantage with Microsoft mice is drivers which can map all buttons for gaming, with Logitech Mouseware not all the buttons will map with all games, this is their only weakness and some people don`t even bother with installing the mouseware software,I use a Logitech mouse at the moment with mouseware and I can get all or most of my buttons to work with most games so it`s not a big deal for me.

If you want to go Logitech then the MX500 (corded) or MX700(cordless) are the best at the moment,Microsoft wise then the Intellimouse explorer /Optical V3 are your best bet.

I've used Logitech's older optical mice and they were ok but Microsofts Explorers were far better. Well Logitech one upped Microsoft with their new MX series. Honestly I love my MX500 and I've had to beat off some of the dorm mates, they liked it too. So I'd have to say if you want a new mouse thats wired then get the MX500. If you want a wireless and can afford to pay...get the MX700. The software is somewhat of a pain but the newest version did fix a slight problem I was having in Half-Life with buttons. Some other games still don't like it but...its getting better. Otherwise its an amazing mouse :)

HEhe, that's funny, cus i thought Microsoft's older optical mice sucked donkey balls. But yes, their Explorer is much better. I'd still go for Logitech though.

I'd have to side with Logitech on this one.

1) MS mice have a cheap feel to *me. Logitech's do not. (YMMV, go for what you like. I don't like buttons that feel "loose")
2) The MX series seems to track better (we use MS mice at work, I ONLY use logitech at home)
3) Um.....isn't MS a software company (LOL, reaching on this one :) )

To be honest, I just bought a MX700 a week or so ago. I love it. I did, however, consider other mice (IBM, MS, Kennsington, etc), and still feel that the logitechs not only feel better in the hand, but that they are built a bit better. Having said this, I've always had a pref for logitech mice. Take it for what it's worth.

Oh and one thing I forgot to mention was that Microsoft's Explorer 3 just feels like a toy in my hand. It has NO weight to it and just feels like a cheap plastic toy you'd find in doller bin at some supermarket. The Logitech MX500 has weight to it, not a really heavy, tiresome weight but a nice solid feel. My friend said it felt like a massive chew toy...it does. I think I could give this to my dog and he'd be able to play with it and it'd work afterwards. The curves are nicely designed and it has a good texture to it too. Not as purely slick as the Microsoft version...and the button placement seems more natural.

But some people have different sized hands so that'll make the curves and button placements changed depending upon you. Remember to feel the mouse in the story BEFORE you buy! :p

Teh MX optical engine is the best available. The MX700 is the first cordless mouse that covers all bases and compromises nothing. The charging base is unbelievable, and I've had no problems with the USB interface on startup or in the BIOS (or in DOS installs). For all the people b!tching about mouseware, I never even installed it, and it works fine. I can program buttons in games too. I tend to stay away from installing software if it just creates more overhead (TSRs and systray proggys).

The fact is, they are both great...your decision should be "which one is more comfortable?" Like it or not, your gonna hate the thing if it feels wrong, no matter how awesome it works. I had the same decision as you a couple of months ago...I went with the MS mouse. It fit my hand better than the Logitech. Your hand may like the Logitech better, don't choose cuz someone else told you that one is "better" than the other. Ultimately, you have to live with it...
