Are LCD monitors supposed to be better for your eyes than CRT?

Ugh! No.
Well remember that LCDs are designed for a certain resolution and out of that one often use tricks to rescale, which ain't so good.
LCDs have dodgy brightness and contrast from certain angles too. The refresh rates are really quite low also, though it doesn't flicker in the same way as a CRT might.
I've never used an LCD TFT for more than a few minutes. But I can say my little trinitron never causes me eyestrain. With good focus and contrast, low reflections, a monitor is basically good.

LCD's are the best for avoiding eye strain because they have no flicker.

Nevertheless, they have other draw-backs, such as being more expensive, and less responsive in gaming, and colors are not as brilliant as on a CRT.

LCDs are very easy on your eyes because they don't have the same concept of refresh rate that CRTs have, but if you run your CRT at a decent refresh rate this isn't an issue.

LCDs are easy on your eyes, but they are ugly!. If you run them at the resolution they are made for and make sure to look at them at the proper angle they are ok..but use a different res and they are hideous, a poor angle and you can't see them. I don't think the colour definition is as nice, and they are a little blurry for games. (Like motion blur from 3dfx only it doesn't need to be programmed for ;))

LCDs are nice because they are flat...but all in all, there's no way I'd take an LCD over a nice Sony CRT.
