Are LCD Monitors easier on the eyes?

I'm going to replace my 17 inch fishbowl in the near future and was wondering if the LCD monitors are easier on the eyes compared to CRT monitors. In my new job, I will use the computer a lot more and that's why it's a concern for me. So, for those who have had LCD monitors for a little while, do they reduce eye strain/fatique/etc for you? Thanks for any advice.

I've found that they are nicer, especially if working under flourescent lights, because they don't flicker. On an LCD the screen never refreshes if it changes, so it doesn't get out of sync with the lights and create headaches and such.

"On an LCD the screen never refreshes if it changes..."

LCDs do refresh, but the actual display doesn't respond/discharge fast enough to fade out between refresh passes. What you're saying is basically true, but I had to nitpick. 🙂

Absolutely NOT! I have found LCDs to mess up my vision worse than monitors. My worst monitor was about as bad as the best LCD I have seen. I have been using my new Dell Inspiron 8000 for the last week because I am on vacation and my normal comp is at home and now text (any image for that matter) looks 3D! My eyes now have a ghosting effect. I LOVE LCDs but they really do screw up my eyes.

LCD's are good! they are very crisp, just like looking at a picture. you can try waving your finger infront of a monitor and you can see it "flicker" but you wont in LCD's.

I know all the good things about LCDs but it does not change the fact that they cause more with my eyes than monitors. It is very possible that it is just me. My eyes are very sensitive to low brightness screens.

LCD's are much easier on my eyes (and those of most humans). 😉

I can't wait until the whole office goes LCD. CRT's produce alot of positive ions and strong radiations which are a subtle bad influence on the workspace.

what do u mean?...the radiation can do wonders for impotence, hair growth, premature ejaculation, gender, lactose-intolerance, negentropy, etc..

LCDs seem easier on my eyes, but i haven't used them for extended periods (read over an hour)....

Anyone concerned about monitors and radiation should read the information at this LINK

A good LCD is absolutely better. I went from a Sony F500R (.22 AG Pitch, 360mhz bandwidth, etc) to an 18.1" Compaq TFT8020 DVI LCD (300:1 contrast, 200nits brightness, 37ms response time) attached to the DVI connector of a Leadtek GF3.

Even when comparing to a top of the line .22AG pitch monitor, the LCD is noticably sharper from corner to corner. You can also stare into it for 12+ hours a day (which, unfortunately, I do).

LCD's are totally easier on the eyes. I just wish they wouldn't use the crummy 1280x1024 resolution which I don't like becuase it doesn't have a square aspect ratio.

I've used quality laptops for so long that I have a hard time using any CRT based system. My eyes feel like they'll burst out, even on flat Trinitrons.

I have an Inspiron 7500 and know the feeling. I also have a Viewsonic VG-150 that I have used side by side and there is a VERY noticeable difference between the two. We use this setup for tradeshows at work so they are side by side for hours at a time.

I think the VG-150 is easier on the eyes than my CRT but I dont know how much of that is my wallet telling my mind that its better.
