Are laptops upgradable in the videocard area?

I'm just curious if I could, let's say, buy a Radeon 9600 mobile card and install it like a standard desktop PC?

I would ask in the Laptop forum but it's just way too slow responding in there.
Thanks!

depends on the laptop. some have seperate vga cards, and can be accessed seperately from the mainboard.

Yeah but the majority is no though :(.

But even then getting a hold of a laptop graphics card is not easy......

My Inspiron 8200 is. Most of the 8000 series of Dell's Inspirons are VGA upgradeable. It was a bitch getting the mobility 9000 from Dell though.

Your grammar sucks and Alienware is really overpriced.

My advice is NOT get a lappy that's upgradable. Think about it. You will probably drop $3000 on the Alienware. In three years you will need to upgrade the GPU (probably). At that point, you are also going to need more RAM and maybe a new processor. IMO it's probably cheaper and easier to buy a good lappy now, sell it later and purchase a new one once the GPU gets slow.
