are laptop hdd more reliable than desktop?

if you're picking a hdd for htpc (which will not be transported around), is there any reason that a laptop hdd would be more reliable than a desktop hdd?

There is not much reason, unless you are going for less noise. But even with noise, the seagate barricudas are very silent.

Less noise, less power consumption, less heat, more resistant to G forces.

Get SCSI if you want reliability. 😉

correct me if i'm wrong...laptop drives usually have larger cache, which isn't the best for reliablility (losing power = more lost data? although laptops have batteries...)
although some desktop drives now have 16megs of cache as well...

Most laptop drives are 2mb and 8mb cache. Some are 16mb.

laptop drives are much more likely to be dropped, spilled on, and otherwise damaged--unless you carry your desktop around w/you too. 😉

i picked up a notebook drenched in water.. the drive when dried, stilled worked but i can't tell if the notebook was on when in water..
