I was wondering if the Klipsch Promedia 2.1 speaker system from Dell are the same Klipsch 2.1 Promedia that you can get other places ? Dell small business has them $123.96 + tax & free shipping. - because it says Klipsch Promedia 2.1 Speaker System-Dell Only. does that mean these are different speakers. thanks for any input

Knowing Dell, it's probably cheaper because they are shipping refurbished products as new. They do this all the time with their expensive LCD monitors and multimedia speakers.

My Klipsch proMedia 2.1 from Dell arrived today. You can tell the contents have been retaped. There was even a few pieces of grass on the sub. How does Dell get away with selling opened boxes as NEW? I am happy with the speakers anyway.

I bought my Promedia 2.1's a long time ago from Sam Goody for 80 bucks when they went on clearance. They didn't have any new sets so I ended up getting the display model. While I was afraid of any abuse the speakers may have gone through being the display, they've performed fantastically well and have even survived 2 apartment parties.

You'll be pleasantly surpised at the build quality and great sound they produce. The only gripe I have is how the volume controller crackles at times when trying to change the volume. Other than that, well worth my 80 bucks. 🙂

I know this sounds stupid, but try changing the volume up and down really fast like a dozen or more times, the crackles might stop.

Ah yeah, that fix isn't stupid, I've heard of it before. 🙂 I think it had something to do with dust and grime getting trapped inside the pot. It would work for a few days at a time, but I eventually just gave into the fact that it's a design flaw...or an "undocumented feature." I also started using the software volume control since my MX Duo keyboard has that convenient volume dial.

The Klipsch 2.1s are part of the older generation Promedia line, including the 4.1s and 5.1s, pre-Ultra. One of the problems was the tweeter breaking up during volume changes. I think the best way around it is to simply change the volume via your media player and set the PMs to a comfortable maximum volume, like 50%.
