Are KBB and edmunds "trade-in" values really wrong?

I had a dealer offer me almost 2000$ less then the KBB/edmunds traid in price, saying that they will pay me "wholesale" price since they will not sell my car and just ship it out to a wholeseller. are they telling the truth about the prices? is it unreasonable to expect the actual KBB price?

Depends on the vehicle. Gas guzzlers like big trucks and SUVs are not selling and KBB/edmunds are little behind reflecting real world prices.

I traded a vehicle in at a dealership after doing the research on edmunds on it. It took six hours to negotiate. Do not relent, I got the edmunds price to the penny.

I did the same thing a few years ago. I walked away and they called two times a day for three days while taking the trade in value up a little at a time. They finally called on the last day of the month about an hour before closing time and said "come on over, it's a deal".
