Are juices a good way to get your daily fruit intake?

I will admit it, I am not big fruit or veggie guy. I basically hate them.. although I do eat carrots, peaches, and pears now and then.

So if I drink juice, which I do not mind, will that still give me the same benefits? What about juice from concentrate?
 
I am under the impression that a bit of fruit and veggies improve health and provide things that you can't get from a mostly meat and grain diet (which I have).

I usually just take a bunch of mixed frozen berries and a banana, dump them in a blender, add a bit of OJ and a dash of milk and make a smoothie out of it.

Still acutally retain some of the fiber value from the fruit that way and have it in an easily drinkable form that you can slug away on your ride to work.

Much better for you than juice.
 
after your first glass of juice each day, it's pretty much all sugar, you're not getting any nutritional benefit from fruit juices.
 
Most Juice is nothing more then liquid sugar with a bit of vitamin C. The best part of the fruit is the fiber.

Not if you drink Tropicana Grovestand with LOTS OF PULP. That said the Vitamin C in a glass is what.. 100% of your daily value only which is 60mg. You should easily be taking in 400 - 500mb Vitamin C. More doesn't hurt.

You can hit the bare minimum set by the FDA for a lot of things, but that doesn't mean much. I recommend eating real fruit. AT least Jamba Juice is better..

Just read the label. There is a LOT of sugar in fruit juices. Kool-aide requires you mix in a cup of sugar with their mix for the juice. If you don't mix in the sugar, then it's pretty much colored water with little flavoring. I stopped drinking Kool-aide because my tooth actually chipped off when I was in college drinking that stuff. I drink only water and OJ and some diet pops every now and then.

No. The fruit itself has several additional benefits over processed juice. If you mean using a juicer at home, it's probably close. The body behaves differently when you injest caloric drinks than when you ingest raw fruit. Some studies have shown the body does not adjust the "hunger level" to accomodate liquids as well compared to solids. I believe the study compared soda to candy and found the body "takes into account" the calories from candy but not from soda.

Furthermore, a fibrous fruit like an apple will reduce appetite in a way because the body feels more full after eating an apple than other foods.

OJ will kill you though......and then get away with it......especialy if you dated his wife and if he has his gloves on that will mysteriously not fit at the trial
