Exactly. Even though I got my 10gig 3rd gen. ipod at Target for 200 which is a good deal, I love this thing to death. I use it every day, doesn't matter. It has so many cool features I couldn't give it up. :)

Anything made by Archos ;)

heh...the Archos are bulky, heavy, and somewhat ugly. It seems reasonable to me that a person would be justified in buying an iPod over an Archos, just like buying a Mercedes over a Malibu.

Very true - but a mac is still a home computer (or a laptop) and for the time being will always have a PC-equivilent. And that equivilent that can perform like it can will be cheaper. Unless you really need a Mac OSX environment, I can't see the value in a Mac. You can do anything with a PC that you can do with a Mac for cheaper or faster if you're spending the kind of money you would on a Mac...[/quote]

In my opinion Mac OSX is that much better. The system and the applications work better together. There are more apps for Windows, but most of those are junk. Linux is only good if you have lots of time to waste on even the smallest things, and again, lots of junky apps. The only software that I like on x86 the major FPS games, and I have a PC for that. I've outgrown the constant tinkering with my computer phase, and actually want to focus creating and developing things with my computer. Macs are the best in that regards. And of course you pay for it. It doesnt matter that the "megahurtz" aren't as high, as I'm doing more with the machine in a given period of time.

Think this is getting into off topic territory.

full package of design/interface/engineering/software/extreme excessory assortment etc... no ones touched it. its dominated since it came out, it was the first practical hd mp3 player after all. people aren't blind, if there were a superior alternative(really superior, not something a geek can get by with because he's cheap), it would dominate. heck its taken all this time for the competition just to get even this close:p

course people are going to say its overpriced, its not the price they are willing to pay or simply too poor for. kinda like how most people think snazy color pda's with all the goodies are "overpriced", or hdtvs, or bmw's.... different from overpriced in that a company is gouging for no good reason.:p

If you are buying for physical size get a Rio Karma.
If you are buying for disk space and value get a Creative Nomad Zen.
If you are buying for interface and looks get an iRiver iHP.
If you are buying for iTunes get the iPod.
If you are buying a piece of junk get an Archos anything.

I was refering to the 20gig+ models, but if you want to quote the mini then I bring in the Rio Nitrus and the iGP. The mini is larger then both of these players. Not sure about other players since I haven't checked out more than the Nitrus, iGP and Mini.

oh, mixed up the nitrus or whatever with the karma i think. but last i checked, all rio harddrive based players are larger then the ipod competitors. don't just look at length or width alone.... look at total unit volume.
