Are Iomega external CDRW drives incompatible with Windows XP?

I recently rebuilt a computer for a friend using Windows XP Home but it appears that the external USB drive is incompatible with XP. The OS can see the drive and play music CD's but it can't burn anything. Has anyone found a fix to this problem? Lookin' for a little help here...

Thanks!

At least the ZipCD series are standard compliant "USB mass storage" devices, so they should (and do) work with any operating system that adheres to the USB standard. Whether or not the XP embedded CDRW software handles USB drives is a totally different question.
