are international honor societies worth joining?

I have to pay for membership... annually (I think it's around $15.. after the initial $40)
The application is fairly simple
I guess it will help improve my resume by adding another affiliation but I'm wondering if it's worth the trouble

No. If it's a major-related society that is well known and respected (like Tau Beta Pi for engineers I guess), then it's worth it.

I guess it couldn't hurt though...

there aren't any major related societies for my major like tau beta pi

does tau beta pi have dues too?

Most don't have ongoing dues (at least Phi Beta Kappa, Omicron Delta Kappa, and a few others that I'm a member of don't).... that's a little odd (fishy) to me.
