I asked Intel to send a new i7 inside case sticker and I had to jump thru hoops to get this sticker. I had to send proof of purchase several times and several emails to get one crappy little sticker..worth perhaps a 1 cent. This came by fedex.

I wouldn't have wasted that much time personally. There's a ton of new i7 stickers on ebay ranging from $1.19-$1.99. :)

If you look on the back of the manual that came with your CPU (which is where your original sticker should be...) you'll note the following:

"If you are not a member of Intel's Channel Partner Program, Intel grants you a limited, non-exclusive permission to place the enclosed logo label on the front bezel of a single computer system incorporating the Intel processor shipped with the label. Use of the logo label for any other purpose is unauthorized and constitutes infringement of Intel's exclusive trademark rights."

Basically, yeah, sounds like they just want proof of purchase. "Buy a processor, get a free sticker!"

But isn't the sticker the main reason anyone would buy an Intel CPU?

I've heard that putting the sticker directly on the CPU causes it to produce 1.21 gigawatts of energy and cause small rips in the time-space continuum, but I've never been stupid brave enough to try
