Are intel dual core processors 64 bit?

I have a dual core 3.2 Pentium D that came in my dell E520. Is this a 64 bit chip or 32 bit? Sorry for the noob question before this I was an AMD person and the new intel naming confuses me. It isn't the Core 2 Duo that just came out.

All the Pentium Ds and certain Pentium 4 processors are 64 bit.
Here is a tip to check this. Download a program called CPU-Z. When you start it, the first page gives you a lot of infos about your CPU.
In the instruction field, you will see something like "x86-64" or "EM64T" if your cpu supports 64 bit.
You can find a lot of other infos about your cpu using this.

He's asking about Core Duo (Yonah).

The answer is NO. Yonah does not support EM64T. Core 2 Duo (Allendale/Conroe/Merom) DO have EM64T.

I ran CPU-Z just now and it says its a Pentium D 940 Code Name Presler. Socket 775 LGA

Instructions: MMX, SSE, SSE2, SSE3, EM64T

So if it says EM64T there then I am good right?

I won't go 64-bit anymore since I had such a hard time finding drivers for Windows XP Professional X64... Man that was a PITA...

This is true. If you plan on finding drivers for your hardware, let alone using it for any length, definitely stick with the 32-bit version for now. I speak only for Beta 2, they may have improved the driver situation with RC1 - but I'd still stick with 32-bit.
