Are instant vacation from peel-offs and bottle caps ect a scam?

Has anyone even heard of anyone winning that Hawaii trip or XBOX from a soda bottle lid or a peel off at Taco Bell or anything like that?

Considering that they don't charge you extra, and you'd be buying the drink anyway, I don't think that I'd call it a "scam", but I don't personally know anyone who has won.

Of course, I don't know anyone who has won the lottery either.

My brother used to be really lucky with these things. He got a nice leather basketball from sprite as well as a nice supersoaker from a popsicle stick (quote this for innuendo). Unrelated but that lucky bastard then went on to win a $1k bicycle.

My cousin won a trip to Florida from a McDonald's contest that was over for a day or two but they were still handing out the containers with the contest slips and had to honor it.

I won my xbox 360 from mountain dew, but it was the every 10 minutes promotion... you had to get codes from mountain dew, enter them on a website, and each one gave you an entry in the drawing they had every 10 minutes...
