Are Insignia tvs any good?

Ina word, no. See my sig. Let the third tier junk brands die the death they deserve.

That article only compares the cheap tvs vs the brand names in regard to their warrenties. I personally don't care much about a warrenty, if it works when I got it it's probably gonna work a long time. I'd be more interested in an article showing that the cheaper tvs have worse picture quality or something you'd notice every time you bought the tv. Warrenties are like playing the lottery and I just don't bother.

Well it turns out my tv will not have to be replaced. I hooked it into a different outlet and it works just fine!

This is an extremely poor assumption to make. Backlights die, electronics malfunction, etc. I'm not exactly sure when the "solid state electronics don't die" myth got started, but it's certainly not true. That doesn't mean it's worth buying an extended warranty, but I would also not count on the TV lasting five years.

i have had a 37 inch 720P one since mid december and have no regrets at all with my purchase. when i bought the TV i was in the market for a 37 inch TV as it was for a bedroom so that size was what i wanted. i compared it against other 37 inch TV's that best buy had on display at the time. among them were samsung, sony, sharp, toshiba and dynex. i stood there over an hour comparing picture quality and other features. to me the insignia has just as good of a picture as the samsung or sony and felt it was not worth spending the money for the name only.

just remember once you get past the first year, all TV's have the same warranty terms.....none.

That being said, my Vizio 720p plasma is 2 years old and still going strong. The only person I know that has used a warranty on an HDTV was on a Samsung rear projection TV. All of the people I know that have 1+ year old HDTV's (LCD / Plasma) have had no problems...that ranges in brands from Sony, Samsung, Olevia, Vizio......
