Bought a IBM Deskstar 30gb hardrive from a fellow member last week and was just wondering if it was still under warranty can I RMA it if it breaks down or does the warranty apply only to original buyer?

I dont know how old the drive is since it is not been delivered yet. Do they go by date of manufacture or date of purchase for there warranty?

I went to there site and got confused?

I hear people selling HD and mention 1 or 2 years left in the warranty. SO the implication is it is tranferable.

thanks

so I guess it does not matter who initially bought the hard drive. they go via manufacture date.

I thought they would ask for a reciept or proof of original purchase. Thanks.

Confirmed. I just recently had to contact tech support to resolve some flaky sectors in my drive. As long as the date on the drive is within your warranty time, they'll help you out/return/exchange/refund. Most IBMs out there are under 3 year warranty, as people just plain stopped buying them before anyone thought of reducing warranties to one year :D
