Are honors classes really worth it?

All of my classes are currently honors and i hate it. Some of them (biology and english) take a lot of work and time that i really dont have... it takes a lot from my social life and with all of the extra work i do in ROTC it really tires me out... im also addicted to caffine now to stay awake in class because how late i stay up for school work since i get home so late to do it...

What im wondering are the honors classes really worth it over the standard classes for college and later in life? because im thinking of changing my classes next semester/year

Honor classes contribute to your grade average just the same as non-honor classes. Don't take them.

AP classes on the other hand will save you money and time from taking required classes that your AP can cover.

When you say required classes, you mean required college classes right?

Yes they are definatly worth it
At my school they help my GPA by adding .5 GPA more overall if you hav all honors

They COULD help a bit more in AP but not too much...

Since I took AP English in High School, I took the AP Exam and since I got a 4 of 5, I didn't have to take College Expository Writing I and was given an A for the course. Since I had a B or better in Expos I, I was excused from Expos II.

So yeah, it helps.

Plus you learn ar lot more
In my non-honors classes I learn jack
In my honors physics class we go into detail unlike the reg physics which someof my friends have

AP and honors are different things. AP is able to raise my GPA to 5 and is able to give me college classes. Thats a thing that im considering because it actually does something for me. Honors on the other hand gives me nothing that i know of... Do colleges look at the honors courses that u take?

I wouldn't take it, it's harder than regular courses and it counts towards your mark the same effectively lowering your GPA if you don't do as well. You will however feel more challeneged with less "idiots" in your class. I would only bother with AP courses.

I assume your school has counselors? Use them. They can be a great help in planning schedules, recommending colleges and writing recommendations.

ive actually known the people in my honors classes for years now since i always have the same classes with them for the past 4 years. We're all pretty much idiots... there are like a few of us that go beyond but thats like 4 students.. Most of my real friends are in standard classes and some of them are smarter than me but some how the system keeps putting them in ELD classes 😕

oh i pretty much held a great dislike to them since they called me a liar to my face

I think it's pretty dumb that there's no GPA credit for taking honors at your school, but I would still take them. Colleges just don't look at your grades. They look at the level of the course as well.

In my HS, people that didn't take honors didn't get a real education. I don't recall many doing well in college.

On the other hand, the small little study group I was in (really just helping each other between/before classes) took crazy amounts of AP classes and honors classes. Everyone I remember from that group went to college and is getting a great degree. We entered with about sophomore status and the classes were easy in comparison.

At my High School...

Honor adds some point advantages and AP adds even more points.
If the class is going to be hard then take honors or regular. If you want that class for College class credit go for AP, because honors won't help you too much there except knowledge.
I bascially took honors whenever I could throughout high school, but it was the best choice, because it was harder material. Harder classes + some lazyness = lower grades and that in turn won't help your GPA.

If you already know what you are going to do in College take those types of classes in High School. I'm in College now and still don't know what I want to do. Also some high school classes I took really didn't help my "major" in college although they were really interesting. AP Enviro Sci and AP Bio were two AP classes I took that didn't help me at all in College. I did like those 2 classes and got A's in them.

It can go both ways. When I was going to HS in NYC, AP could go towards your required classes, but they were pretty rough (most were afternoon classes that lasted late into the afternoon 3-5ish). And if you pass the AP exam with a 4-5, that's pretty much a guarantee for college credit. 2 birds with 1 stone.

Im still young so could someone tell me if colleges pick your classes depending on your major or do they have a set standard that you have to take? (ie biology, chemisty) because i really really really really really hate all kinds of science except for computer

If they do, i think i might go for AP Bio to get it over with

We didn't have honors classes at my school, just AP (which is awesome). We didn't have weighted grades either, which is the way I think it should be.

I'd consider taking AP classes if I were you.

there will be required core classes (the basics), required classes relating to your major, and electives that you must pic per your interests and to fulfill certain requirements.

I'm a first year at UCI and trust me, take all the AP classes you can. You will regret it in college 🙂. Unless you're majoring in some bs major or something.

Most universities have prereqs you need to meet before even being considered for admission. The UC system requires that you have 2 years of laboratory science (chem, physics, or bio), 4 years of english, 3 years of math, etc.
