are HDs affected by switches in OSes?

im currently running xp32, and am planning on getting a 1tb hd and filling it up with all media off my 3 320gb hds, and then taking that hd and sticking it in a windows 7 system as a 2nd drive. im not sure how it works with the file systems, but would i be able to just plug the 1tb hd into the new system and be able to access all the media?
