Are HDMI cables this delicate?

Ordered a 12 ft in-wall rated HDMI cable from monoprice for my wall mount installation. Actually I wall mounted the tv last weekend but all my hdmi cables were too short for the run. The new cable came in and looks like a high quality cable with super thick shielding and a mesh jacket. So I took down the tv, open up the wall plates, string the cable down and then remounted the tv. I even bought a right angle hdmi adpater to reduce any strain on the cable. I connected the cable to the right angle adapter and then to the port. I pushed the slight slack in the cable up and behind the tv to hide it. This apparently cause the metal connector part of the cable to break right off where it connects to the adapter. So now all you see at the end are the exposed pins. The connector on the adapter was fine though. So that's an hour wasted and $12 down the drain.

Actually, for $12, what do you expect? I'm not saying go buy a $200 MonsterCable HDMI cable... But you should look at something in the $40 range which actually tests them.

well durable would not be the way i describe any hdmi cable when put under strain

i buy the swivel adapters from monoprice, mainly to protect the hdmi ports on my expensive av equipment than the cables though

meh out of the 7 or 8 different hdmi cables i've ordered from monoprice for under $10 bucks (well 1 was like 20...but it s was 35 feet or so) ive yet to have one go bad. If i ordered one for 10 bucks and it was bad id just order (or send back for exchange) and still come out cheaper than buying 40 buck cables.

Monoprice makes good quality cables. Wont be top tier cables or anything but they easily will do what the average user needs and wants.

For shorter cables (usually under 16ft) I really recommend not getting the really beefy HDMIs. They really do have a tendency to break at the connector just as you described if you put tension on them in the wrong way because the can be so stiff. The right angle should have helped but if you tweaked it the wrong way...

I've even seen them break ports in TVs which is way worse...

I had a co-worker forget to take an hdmi out of a tv when we were taking it off the wall and it broke this way. That cable was installed when before the basement was finished, that was a nightmare to replace!

Monoprice will replace that cable as cables and non-electronic items have a lifetime warranty.

Talk to support they are pretty cool. Either by live chat on the top of the page, e-mail or call.
