Are gaming rigs cheap(er) in the US?

I live in Sweden and frankly I think gaming rigs are quite costly to build.

EVGA's GTX690 costs almost $1400 and the new Ivy Bridge Intel i7 3770k (3.5 GHz) costs roughly $430. That is, when converted to USD from SEK.

Now, you don't need to have a top-of-the-line rig which beats everything known to mankind, but I took them as an example. The price of a full rig which is top-of-the-line costs at least $2200 if you go with a 680 or 670. With the 690, it's gonna come to at least $3500.

Atleast here in Denmark prices are roughly MSRP+VAT. Should be same in Sweden.

Also ordering from outside the EU means you can get tax+fees+toll. Not to mention the RMA nightmare.

Darn. Well, I'm not the slightest bit interested in ATi's GPU's. I kinda am more of a Nvidia and Intel fan. Says a guy who hasn't owned a gaming rig yet (me)

My laptop is kinda contradicting with it being AMD+ATi, both of which I don't really like.

Well, money is both an issue and not. I'd like a beastly rig and from what I've read and heard, Evga make GPU's to die for.

And by the way, I really do like Intel more. According to myself and basically everyone I know who build rigs, can agree on the fact that Intel make better and more reliable CPU's. ATi, however, make good GPU's but Nvidia seems to have the lead there. I would kill to own a 690. (Not really, but hey, it's awesome) Besides, if one wants an awesome experience, why cut corners?

It's also both a good thing and bad thing that nothing's future proof. Bad money-wise but good technology-wise.

Right. This is why your gaming rig is so expensive, OP. You're picking top-of-the-line components that you don't need.

There's no point in getting a 690 when a 670 will run literally anything you throw at it, with flying colors.

Electronics are even cheaper in Asia and outrageously expensive in Australia. Vendors and others give all kinds of excuses, but the bottom line is it's easy to buy them from overseas and avoid things like markups and outrageous taxes.

U know a few guys and me included in cases and cooling have your top of the line cost in just liquid cooling gear.



A PC is as you see fit what u need or want.
want is not need.
You dont need a 7970 for example if u only have a 21inch monitor.
You dont need a 680GTX in tri sli... if all the games ur playing is DX9


Anyhow in sweden i think your gpu costs are a bit overpriced..
Then again... typically any place which has a lower demand, the premium items will cost way more.
And the parts u listed are premium items.

If you are refering to the US I don't know where you buy your 670's, but they are not $500-more like $400-420 and even lower if you wait for a deal. The USA does not have a national sales tax(YET).
