Are games video limited or CPU limited these days?

I just ask because with my new "quiet" setup, I'm no longer stable running my 750@933. Am I being held back by processor speed, or is it my video card?

It depends on the game. Simulations tend to be CPU limited because they're concerned with more than just painting pretty pictures. FPS 3D games are the other way around. We really need more built-in benchmarking in new games.

It depends on the video card you have and the game. I have a duron at 1 ghz and a voodoo 5. The thing holding me back is the voodoo 5. Maybe if you had a geforce 3 it would be the other way around. Some games are more cpu intensive than others. These would be games where there are a lot of physics to be calculated.

It dpends upon the specific game and what processor and video card are in use. There are no hard and set rules, it will vary considerably.

All I really want to know is if I'm CPU or "GPU" limited when I'm playing Black & White.

Its all videocard limited these days. A game is going to have to do some VERY impressive AI/physics work to max a 750mhz Thunderbird.
